Firewall -- an integrated collection of security measures designed to prevent unauthorized electronic access to a networked computer system. (Dictionary.com)
It is very, very important to have a good firewall installed on your computer. There are many to choose from. I personally use Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall. It's easy to use and quite effective.
After you choose your firewall, check out this great article from IT Security, 10 Steps To Make Your Personal Firewall More Secure.
Stay safe!

Hello World!
Welcome to Computer Tips for the Unenlightened. This blog is designed for anybody that wants to get to know computers a little better but think that it's much too hard.
First of all, I want to say something important about myself. I am not a computer know-it-all. That said, I am good with computers. I adore technology and spend 90% of every day using some form of it. I also love learning and sharing what I've learned.
There are thousands of computer-/technology-related blogs in this world, but a lot of them are a bit too advance for the average computer user. I wanted to have a blog where anybody could learn a few new tricks for their computer.
For now, the tips will be Windows-centric. Sorry Mac users!
I really, really want to hear what you think of this blog and any suggestions you may have. Comments are open to everyone (meaning you don't need a Blogger account) so speak up!
